01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
At Tenjaku, dinner centres on tempura, alongside sashimi and soup, with each course offering something different to discover. Tofu tempura has stayed with diners: one reviewer said it reminded them of agedashi tofu, while another called it one of the most memorable dishes they had ever eaten. Tofu and sweet potato tempura also appear among the menu options. Tempura is the draw, but part of the pleasure is seeing which ingredients feature on each plate.
Some diners have been surprised by the appeal of unexpected ingredients. One was impressed by figs in tempura; another named corn and tomato among their favourite dishes. While one diner picked prawn tempura as the highlight of dinner, another preferred the mackerel tempura. Their experiences give a sense of the pleasure of tasting how the course brings out the differences between seafood, vegetables and other ingredients. Sashimi has also made an impression, with one diner singling out red sea bream sashimi.
Dishes are served across the counter, and some visitors have enjoyed hearing the chef explain each one. Being able to ask about the food can add to a meal for those who like to learn about the ingredients and preparation as they eat. Several reports say dinner took around 3 hours, so this is better suited to an unhurried evening than a quick meal.
Dining is available in the restaurant; takeout and delivery are not offered. Reservations are recommended for dinner, so check ahead when planning a visit.
